Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz has represented South Florida in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2005, following service in both the Florida House of Representatives and the Florida Senate. Throughout her public career, she has focused on expanding opportunity for families, supporting seniors and veterans, protecting children and advancing access to quality health care.
Known for building bipartisan support on key issues, Wasserman Schultz authored or helped lead several significant legislative initiatives, including the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act, the PROTECT Our Children Act, the EARLY Act to increase breast cancer awareness and education and the Rape Survivor Child Custody Act.
She serves on the House Appropriations Committee and has held several leadership positions in Congress, including serving as the first woman to chair the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee. She also serves on the Agriculture and Energy and Water subcommittees, where she advocates for veterans, environmental protection and South Florida priorities.
Wasserman Schultz earned both her bachelor’s degree in political science and her master’s degree from the University of Florida. A longtime South Florida resident, she lives in Weston with her family and continues to represent communities across Broward County in Congress.
