Dr. Howard Hepburn was appointed Superintendent of Broward County Public Schools in April 2024 after serving as the district’s Deputy Superintendent of Teaching and Learning. An accomplished educator with more than two decades of experience, he is recognized as a collaborative leader committed to expanding educational opportunity and improving student outcomes.

Throughout his career, Dr. Hepburn has served as a classroom teacher, coach, dean, assistant principal, principal, instructional superintendent and district leader. He has played a key role in developing strategies that close achievement gaps, expand access to accelerated learning opportunities and strengthen instructional leadership in large urban school districts across Florida.

Before joining Broward County Public Schools’ executive leadership team, Dr. Hepburn served the School District of Palm Beach County as Instructional Superintendent for both the Glades and South regions, where he supported school leaders in improving student achievement and building strong learning communities.

Guided by the principles of empathy, culture, value and efficiency, Dr. Hepburn remains committed to student-centered leadership. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Science Education and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Central Florida, as well as a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Florida Southern College.

Dr. Hepburn and his wife have been married for more than 20 years and are the proud parents of three children.
